The spirit of nationalism has long been instilled when the country struggled for independence under the Alliance Party leaders, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Tan Cheng Lok and Tun V.T Sambanthan. Together with other freedom fighters they fought the British for the sovereignty of the Malay States. The Second Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein introduced the National Principles and the New Economic Policy to unite the various ethnic groups and uplift the economic status of the poor in the country. The third Prime Minister, Tun Hussein Onn worked at instilling unity among people of various races and was subsequently bestowed 'Father of Unity'. Tun Dr. Mahathir the fourth Prime Minister introduced Vision 2020, a target to reach our developmental goal while the fifth Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi upheld the motto of Excellence, Glory and Distinction to maintain what have been achieved.
The Principle of Social Justice
All citizens of Malaysia will be protected and none will be marginalised. Aid to each group will take into consideration the level of progress each group has made and allocation to be given accordingly as stipulated in the policy enshrined in the Constitution. With 1Malaysia, representatives of every ethnic group must transcend racial boundaries and extend their services to other races. Although 1Malaysia advocates social justice, it is not a platform for any quarters to make unreasonable demands.
